CE marked products are entitled to free movement throughout the European market (EU and EEA). However, the CE mark is not a quality mark, nor a guarantee that the product meets all of the requirements of relevant EU product safety law. The CE marking represents a manufacturer’s declaration that products comply with the EU’s New Approach Directives. These directives not only apply to products within the EU but also for products that are manufactured in or designed to be sold in the EEA. This makes the CE marking recognizable worldwide even to those unfamiliar with the EEA.

It applies ONLY to radio equipment, including radiodetermination equipment. Telecom terminal equipment that does not function using radio will be under the scope of EMC and LVD directives (where applicable). CE marking is mandatory for products that fall under one of the 25 CE Directives or Regulations. When a product is not covered by one of these Directives or Regulations, affixing the CE logo is forbidden. Often, more than one Directive or Regulation can be applicable to a product.
